Directory of Canadian Physiotherapy clinics and certified Physiotherapists who provide Physiotherapeutic Scoliosis-Specific Exercises (PSSE), including programs based on the Schroth method:

Jan 19, 2026 planned completion date Feb 28, 2026

The following is a listing of Canadian physiotherapy clinics and certified physiotherapists who provide physiotherapeutic scoliosis-specific exercises (PSSE), including programs based on the Schroth method, for paediatric and adult patients diagnosed with scoliosis, kyphosis, and other spinal conditions. The Schroth method is a structured, non-surgical exercise approach developed in Germany in the early 20th century and subsequently refined to integrate postural correction principles and, in some settings, coordination with orthotic bracing.

PSSE approaches, including Schroth-based programs, are used internationally and are among several exercise-based strategies described in the literature for conservative scoliosis management. Available evidence suggests that PSSE may provide benefits in selected patients, particularly as an adjunct to standard non-operative care, with reported effects on posture, trunk asymmetry, and patient-reported quality-of-life outcomes. Evidence regarding their impact on curve progression varies across studies, and PSSE are not considered a replacement for bracing in progressive scoliosis.

In Canada, access to Schroth-based PSSE may be limited by the availability of certified physiotherapists, geographic distribution of services, and out-of-pocket costs, which can pose barriers for some families. The Schroth method is not routinely included in undergraduate physiotherapy curricula in Canadian universities, and certification requires additional postgraduate training.

Families are encouraged to discuss conservative treatment options with their health-care providers to determine the most appropriate management strategy based on curve magnitude, skeletal maturity, and individual patient factors.

Evidence-based studies can be read here Links to Publications on Physiotherapeutic Scoliosis-Specific Exercises PSSE

SSOL Schroth Physiotherapists
Scoliosis Spine Online Learning (SSOL) was co-founded in Canada by Ottawa physiotherapist Andrea Lebel in 2008 who was mentored and appointed Schroth Teacher in 2014 by Christa Lehnert-Schroth (daughter of the late Katharina Schroth (1894-1985)) in Europe. Lebel was Canada's first certified Schroth physiotherapist.

ISST (International Schroth 3-dimensional Scoliosis Therapy) Schroth Physiotherapists
International Schroth 3D Scoliosis Therapy (ISST) is the international branch of the original Asklepios Katharina Schroth method. ISST Schroth is the most studied exercise approach for scoliosis.

BSPTS Schroth Physiotherapists
The Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School (BSPTS) was founded in Barcelona Spain 2008 by Dr. Manuel Rigo, see BSPTS methodology based on the original principles of Katharina and Christa Lehnert Schroth.

"...If your child has idiopathic scoliosis, their care team might suggest working with a physical therapist to perform customized scoliosis specific exercises – exercises designed to help straighten their spine...Customized for each child, scoliosis specific exercises offer an effective, non-surgical option for treating scoliosis. Known as the "Schroth Method," this approach uses physical therapy to help bring a curved spine into a straighter, more natural position..."
